Gospel Metaphor 1: Rescue

The literal historical shift of the Israelites from Egypt to Palestine in the Old Testament gives us one picture frame for the gospel.

As the people were rescued from Egypt, from Pharaoh and from slavery, all human beings now through Christ as depicted in the New Testament can be rescued from the ‘world’ or human structures opposed to God, from Satan and from the power of sin.

Thus, when we offer the gospel to our friends and family it may follow these lines: “Do you agree that you seem caught or trapped by forces or powers bigger than you? Does freedom from this trap appear only a dream? God offers you rescue through faith in Christ as your deliverer.”

(Note that there is no mention of the Israelites being sinners when Moses comes to them!)
